Nowadays such a journal of thoughts, observations and muses is considered as a way to boost your business when posted on the internet.

Blogs, previously know as web logs, have now established themselves as the ‘must have’ means to promoted yourself and project your business to friends and customers online. A blog is essentially a journal, daily entries or ‘posts’ as they are called, updated on a regular basis. These may consist of news, personal views and opinions, ideas and promotional material.

Blogs also have links to other sites or blogs, sources of information and marketing promotions. These online journals are not meant to be on-way sites, that is, readers are invited, or indeed expected to submit their comment on the material posted within the blog.

This can apply to everything from home keeping to travel, but it can also serve as a source of income to your online business. Yet, not everyone can make headway with blogs.

I invite you to see how the following 4 basic business objectives can be reached.

1. find a new or little-known product or idea For Ryan Brown, having a blog makes a lot of sense for several reasons. Brown runs a business that provides alternative energy systems.

Since most of his prospective clients know little about alternative energy systems and what is available, he says that he finds a natural way to provide this information through his blog. “I began blogging as a means of cheap advertising and to keep in touch with existing and prospective clients,” says Brown “It does have a positive impact for my enterprise.

People are always craving for more information on companies, products and availability.” Eventually this leads to a better informed customer who is usually more ready to part with his cash and make a well-informed purchase. Thus product information is available to whoever needs it. No useless sales pitching to uninterested customers, but the same sales pitch is available to whoever seeks it. If a reader contacts you via the blog, bingo – you get results.

If not, no time has been wasted. You have lost no time explaining something to someone who eventually doesn’t buy.

2. Search Engine rankings are improved. Blogging also reaches out to other prospective clients in other ways. As any online business knows, site visitors coming via Google, or any other search engine provide a multitude of leads.

Search Engines love blogs because a blog sites has continuously changing content and comments posted by readers create further interest to spider bots. When set up properly, blogs have an enormous benefit as regards search engines, according to to search engine marketing firms.

Blogs that allow comments, every new post or comment converts into an additional web page in itself, full of additional keywords that are greedily picked up by the search engine spider bots.

3. Identify yourself as an expert in the field.

Apart from generating leads, a positive message about your credentials is dispersed throughout the online marketplace, giving your enterprise a personality and brand of its own.

4. Leave your mark on public opinion.

Traditional journalistic venues are bypassed through blogging, enabling the user to become his own publisher when airing his views and opinions.

Public relations firms have stated that blogs are now becoming the most powerful influence on public opinion Blogs have become a legal alternative source of news and information on nearly all subjects and topics. Anyone can use blogs, especially those with a passion and flair for some particular aspect or trade.

Several blogs serve to sway public opinion as much as established profession public relations firms. Talk openly with your customers in a forum Blogs that invite comments from their readers provide a sense of immediacy and personal contact with your customers.

In a way, this provides much needed feedback on what the customer likes or dislikes and what needs to be improved A business related blog provides a means for customers to submit their views after purchasing. The result?

Such blog-assisted online businesses benefit by getting glowing testimonials from over 15% of their customers as opposed to the less than 1% of customers that submit unsolicited testimonials in the normal market.

Every time someone visits or hits your website, it is recorded in the server logs. Server logs come in raw data which your hosting company will convert and provide to you in reading form – website stats. By having your websites stats in front of you, you will be able to analyze where all of your traffic is coming from and how many hits and visitors you have had.

The word “hits” is commonly used these days and can cause confusion for many website owners, because in reality your traffic should not just be seen as hits, it should be split in to two groups, hits and visitors.

A visitor: This can be described as a unique person entering your website that then goes on to other pages and browses your site. No matter how many pages they look at, they will still only count as one visitor in your server logs. For example, if a person entered a website which sells golf supplies and they look at a certain brand of golf ball; they would then be counted as one visitor despite how many differing brands they may choose to then browse.

A hit: This however is different in the way that it counts every time a person moves to a different page on your website. Meaning every time a visitor moves to a different page on your website, it will create a hit in your server logs. For example, a hit in the same golf supplies website would be for every different brand of golf ball that the same person chooses to look at.

So now that you know the difference between a visitor and a hit, which one should you be keeping your eye on when analyzing your website stats? Well, it is just as important to be watching your visitors as it is your hits. Your site visitors are important because this allows you to clearly see how many unique people are being directed to your website. It is always good to see how many different customers your website is attracting.

Your website hits are also important in the way that they show the number of pages that are currently being viewed on your site. You can use this information to see how well your website is doing its job. Is your website landing page enough to entice your visitors to dig deeper and spend more time on your website, reading more and more of its content and what it has to offer. Or are people simply hitting on to the first page and then quickly moving on?

So, here you have it, the difference between a hit and a visitor and if used correctly when analyzing your websites traffic, you can use them together to see how well your website is performing. Never underestimate the power of your website stats; it is analyzing these that will give you some insight in to the future of your website.

It used to be that you could actually get more website traffic by simply throwing a bunch of good keyword search phrases on your pages and in the HTML “tags.” Of course search engines got better, and so the “experts” began to tell us that we just needed high-quality content. “Build it and they will come,” became the operating theory of many.

Of course, it just wasn’t true. You still needed to optimize the pages. After all, if your page was about ultralight backpacking, how would the search engines know that if you didn’t use the phrase a few times on the page? And if you preferred to call it “fastpacking,” there was never a way for all those searchers of “ultralight backpacking” to find your page – even if it was exactly the content they wanted.

So optimization still matters. But when the search engine algorithms changed again they began to place less emphasis on “on site” optimization. You still need those keywords on the page, but this is no longer enough. You also need to have other sites linking to yours, to show that you are important. Links have become very important if you want more website traffic from search engines.

The type of link matters though. Reciprocal links – where you trade with another site – are no longer of much value. Search engine algorithms have been adjusted for the fact that sites started trading irrelevant links just to boost rankings. Only one-way unpaid links are considered a true “vote of confidence” by the search engines, and so these are what you need.

Now, some experts still claim that you get links by having great content. People read your page, like it and so link to it. That would be nice, but it isn’t common at all. In fact, there are several things wrong with this theory.

First, how do the readers find your page to begin with, so they can then decide they like it enough to link to it? If you have no incoming links, the search engines ignore you, so how does anyone find the page? Secondly, if some visitors do make their way to your pages, will they have websites to link to you from? Most internet users either don’t have a website or they barely know how to create a link.

Finally, serious webmasters are hesitant to link to other sites too often now. Why? They don’t want to link to possible competition for starters. But the bigger reason is that a given page can only has just so much “voting power” according to search engine algorithms, so owners of sites like to divide it up in beneficial ways – like by linking to their own pages and sites.

So getting incoming links is the way to get more website traffic, but they are hard to get. What can you do? You can pay for traffic, but with many sites this is impractical. If your site makes ten cents per visitor and you pay fifty cents to get one, you are just throwing your money away.

Now, before I answer the question of how to get more traffic, let me add an encouraging note. Contrary to what some are saying, good content is not irrelevant now. Don’t listen to the skeptics. I recently read an opinion piece by a webmaster who said the old idea of “building a great website with great content” in order to get traffic was “foolish nonsense.” It isn’t.

What do we want when we search for things online? We want great websites with great content, right? That is exactly what the search engines are trying to point us too. The fact that they don’t do it perfectly doesn’t mean they aren’t getting better at it. So as they get continue to improve, you want to have the kind of site that they are looking for. If you’re thinking long term, have good content.

Finally, one of the best ways I have found to generate more website traffic is with simple articles like this one. Submit it to a few article directories, and you’ll get some readers. If they like it, some will even take it and use it on their websites, creating valuable one-way links. That helps with your search engine rankings. Meanwhile, some readers will like it enough to want more, and they’ll click that link in your resource or “about the author” box at the end of the article.

These days when 70-80% of the business is generated online, it is necessary to have a globally accessible website i.e, it should be accessible across all major browsers, operating systems and other devices like PDA, phone etc.With over 100+ combination of browser/OS, it becomes more necessary than ever to follow web standards while coding the website.

In this article, we will discuss about the advantages of following web standards.

World Wide Web Consortium

Web standards: Web standard is a general term for the formal standard and other technical specification, established by the W3C and other standard bodies.

W3C: The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) is an international industry consortium dedicated to “leading the Web to its full potential”. It’s headed d by Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the Web.

Advantages of web standards:

1. Consistent Look and Feel: All styles are defined separately in a central CSS file. Separation of style from the content enables to give a consistent look and feel to the website.

2. Improved search engine ranking: CSS driven website helps in improving content to code ration by removing junk code. This improves the structural organization of the code, thereby improving its readability. Using optimized content rich code makes it easy for the search engine to index it more accurately and achieve better ranking.

3. Easy to maintain: Having all the styles defined in single CSS file makes the maintenance easy. It eliminates the tedious job of making same changes on each and every page. It is easy to understand the semantic and structured code even though created by some one else.

4. Cross browser compatible: Writing clean code that conforms to the W3C standards will give consistent results across all browser platforms. Major browsers include – IE6, IE7, Safari, Firefox (Windows and Mac), Opera.

5. Accessible to different devices: Semantic HTML, where structure is separated from presentation, makes it easy to interpret the content on different devices like cell phones, PDA, screen reader.

6. Minimal bandwidth requirement: Clean, structured code with all presentation elements in single file, helps in decreasing the file size and results in quicker downloads.

Conclusion

Using Standard compliant code, one can make sure that the code is properly structured and semantically coded. It is easy to manage and make changes in well formatted website.

In nutshell, standard based websites are more accessible across all browsers, operating systems and different devices. They use low bandwidth and perform well in search engines.

The are many different ways in which you can market a business and make it viable. If you have a store that makes certain items available you can market those items to your selected niche. This is usually very costly and can prove to be a nightmare if you don’t know what you are doing. The same apply s for online stores. There is a lot of work that one has to do in order to ensure that he or she can generate enough sales from the internet. If you are selling something that can be downloaded directly off the net you have an even better chance of making sales as you are able to reach and broader audience (worldwide)

It then becomes a question of marketing a simple online business that can almost be treated as a walk in store. The title for this article aptly asks the question that many are faced with when they are given the various options to market their online stores.

Simply put, blogs allows you to constantly add relevant content that will generate traffic which in turn will bring up sales. Simple?

Blogging is a great ways to take advantage of Social Media Marketing and even Search Engine Optimization. It brings together a great amount of interactivity which will leave you in awe.

// ]]>

Remember that it does not stop at having a blog but rather goes much deeper into the reasons based upon which blogging offers supierror marketing capabilities for your online business,

By now most web designers and developers know that JavaScript causes a real headache for search engine spiders. There are however a number of scripts which, whilst not absolutely essential to the functioning of a site, are nevertheless very handy. So where do you draw the line between keeping your page as search engine friendly as possible and including reams of JavaScript to achieve the desired effects?

You may be surprised to learn that there is an alternative which keeps search engine spiders (reasonably) happy whilst drastically cutting down on the necessary scripts within any given web page.

External JavaScript Source Files
Let’s take the humble “Add Bookmark” script as an example (please note that I have replaced the < > brackets with [ ] brackets so as to be able to display the code properly within this article).

[script Language="JavaScript1.2" type="text/javascript"]
var bookmarkurl = “http://www.doodademporium.com”;
var bookmarktitle = “Purple Doodads for sale”;
function addbookmark()
{
if (document.all)
window.external.AddFavorite(bookmarkurl, bookmarktitle);
}
[/script]

By placing the script’s function into an external folder and file (/java/bookmark.js for example) you will be able to streamline your code down to the following:

[script Language="JavaScript1.2" src="java/bookmark.js" type="text/javascript"][/script]

It’s worth remembering that this is probably one of the simplest examples of JavaScript out there and that the savings in terms of code are going to be substantial with larger scripts.
This method is also worth its weight in gold, so to speak, if you are running a number of scripts on the same page.
Just remember to create a different source file for each script, so as not to confuse matters unnecessarily.

Through the use of external JavaScript files you not only save yourself having to write (or even copy/paste) the same bulky scripts again and again, you are also saving search engine spiders from becoming seriously disillusioned with your web page and going elsewhere in search of easier prey.

Always remember that any web site should make a search engine’s life as easy as possible.
If you do use JavaScript in your pages, this approach will prevent unnecessary complications when having your site indexed, whilst at the same time easing your task of coding.

    google_ad_client = "pub-1580129458799088"; /* 336x280, created 6/29/09 */ google_ad_slot = "0289477569"; google_ad_width = 336; google_ad_height = 280;

Javascript is a client-side programming language whose processing engine is embedded in web browsers like Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox, etc. This enables the processing engine to read and interpret web pages that contain the javascript code when browsing.Javascript first made an appearance in 1995, although by that time it was known as Livescript. This name was later changed to javascript.Javascript was invented to add more exciting features to HTML pages. HTML on it’s on is pretty boring and it cannot do much besides display a webpage. Javascript programming, on the other hand, can provide a host of exciting features like perform calculations, allows the user to interact with webpages, perform form validations, manipulate elements on a webpage, provide excellent visual effects, enables dynamic functions and so much more.

All of this provides the user to the site with an enhanced user experience. Because javascript is a client-side language, all of these features are available in real time without the browser having to refer to the server all the time. This prevents time delays and increases user satisfaction.

Let’s take a closer look at the great things you can do with javascript programming:

Perform Calculations

Javascript can be used to perform simple to advanced mathematical calculations. This is especially useful if you want your users to interact with your site by inputting some information that requires some sort of calculation and displaying the relevant content based on that result. For example, javascript can calculate a loan repayment and display the appropriate result if a user enters a required loan amount on the site. Furthermore, javascript can also tell date and time, time a certain activity and perform intricate date and time calculations.

User Interaction

The javascript on the webpage can take interaction from a user and perform a certain function by way events. Some of the most popular events are:

onblur
onchange
onclick
ondblclick
onfocus
onkeydown
onkeypress
onkeyup
onload
onmousedown
onmousemove
onmouseout
onmouseover
onmouseup
onselect
onsubmit

Perform Form Validations

Javascript can validate and check user input to determine whether it conforms to a certain requirement. For example, you can check if a field is left empty, if an email address is in the proper format, if a zip code code is in the proper format, etc. In most cases, if an error is made by your site visitor, an alert can display the appropriate error message to him or her.

Manipulate Elements On A Webpage

Javascript allows a user to change content or styles of a webpage upon a user interaction by way of the aforementioned events. For example, hovering over a certain text can make an image appear, text on a submit button can change on submit, etc.

Provide Visual Effects

Javascript has a host of ways to provide visual effects to a webpage that other server-side programming languages cannot. A typical example of this might be some fancy image rollover buttons.

Enables Dynamic Functions

Javascript, together with AJAX (asynchronous JavaScript and XML), can be used to create dynamic applications. One example of this is to load dynamic content onto a webpage without refreshing the page.

In my next chapter, we will delve further into javascript programming.

Many people have contemplated using automated software to make their websites rank in and around the first page of the many search engines available. Using the software means that you will have your work cut out for you. You wouldn’t have to worry about many little details as the software will take care of most of them.

The question that remains though is – should I use various types of software and should I trust them? My simple answer to this question is NO. Automating things like the submission of a site or blog feed is okay and makes no negative difference to your rankings and or link building. But using software to ‘automatically’ rank you can prove to be a dangerous game. Search engines usually figure out the ‘black hat’ techniques that people use and by doing so they will immediately remove the sites that have used those techniques.

When using these pieces of software you can open yourself to a lot more damage than good and sometimes it can be almost impossible to fix the damage that’s done to your web site presence. There are a lot of ‘above board’ software programs that have very good sales pitches and can make you believe almost anything, however, I would still recommend that you stay away from these.

The software that I do recommend to help you keep up-to-date with everything that you need to know about your web site, it’s ranking and general yet helpful information is:

WebCEO – Trail/Premium

RSS Submit – Premium

RSS Announcer – Open Source

Of you would like to keep up to date with the latest trends in Internet marketing and Search Engine Optimization I suggest that you use Google Web Master Channel on YouTube. This information is probably the most valuable that you will come across.

If you do decide to go ahead and get yourself software then you should ensure that you can monitor absolutely every aspect of what is being done with is. Sometimes all this does is increases your traffic, however, that traffic will not convert into anything – no sales, no revenue and not even leads. What’s the point then?

It has long been known that using quality content to attract a large amount of visitor content to your site is by all means the best and most profitable way that you can do online business. By using large amounts of content you can indeed attract many users to your site.

The trick then remains that you should be able to gain momentum in your postings of content and that you should also be able to specifically target the traffic that you receive. There is no point in getting large amounts of unusable traffic that has no direction and value to your site, product and or service.

Therefore it becomes relevant that you target your audience wisely and use as many keyword research tools as you can possibly get a hold of and really begin to analyse the results that you get from this. You will notice that the results from each one will differ slightly and that is why you should take each one into proper consideration as well as re-running tests. Once you have a large amount of keywords you should begin writing your content to accommodate those keywords and remember to properly add your meta keywords and description.

While there may be many changes that Search Engines make in their algorithms, one thing will always remain constant and that is the prospect of serving up the best content first. This is your draw card – do the work that you should be doing and target it to your readers first, the search engines will follow through on their own. There is no need for black hat SEO techniques and this will be sure to encourage the disregarding of your site rather than the proper placement thereof.

Once people find quality within the content that you own they will start telling their friends and family about it and you will see the great amounts of difference in your daily traffic. They will begin to share the articles and content that they have found on social networks which in turn brings you even more valuable and targeted traffic. This also increases your number of in-links which is great for overall Search Engine Optimization. Once your site becomes popular you will never have to try to promote your own works as this will be taken care of by your readers.
Be sure to add subscription services to your website and or blog and use them frequently. We have chosen to use FeedBurner since it allows people to feel rather safe and they tend to trust the source and know that their personal details will never be exposed.

Because using services like FeedBurner ensure that your emails are delivered daily; you will receive returning traffic which, as I have mentioned before, is great for your website and blog. This also helps because your updated content is made available daily to all of your subscribers with four very important advantages:

1.	No extra load on your server,
2.	No need to keep email address
3.	no prospect of being reported as spam,
4.	Its all free!

There has been a great deal of change in the way that businesses view social media marketing over the years. Many businesses prefer to stick to the ‘old’ methods and it can work very well with properly designed budgets and an awesome team to create the campaign. However, when it comes to smaller business that have a small budget or no budget t speak of, the solutions can be quite simple. I say this bearing in mind that the results would not be the same as having a large budget. Using incremental marketing strategies you can accomplish a lot in a small space of time and as you begin to make a profit from these services you can then begin to save for bigger marketing.

Using Social Sites is something that most people are already aware off. So getting started within the social network that you currently use is a great start. Get your friends to help promote you and you will see as your traffic increases and you turn advertising into sales or make sales off your own product. As time goes you can begin expanding over other social networks and bookmarking services ensuring that all of your sites content gets book marked in the various social networks that there are. This next step should help to expand further in both your traffic and your revenue generation.

Once you’re here there isn’t much else you can do except write great traffic and let the process automate itself. Make sure you book mark with all of your keywords intact and that your content is usable for the visitors to your site.

Another nice way to keep visitors coming back for more is using an email list or RSS (Real Simple Syndication feeds) within your site. Returning visitors add a lot of value to your site.

The best way to make use of any of this is to ensure that it looks natural and that you, under no circumstances, SPAM the search engines or social media networks as this will definitely get you knocked out!

<!--
google_ad_client = "pub-1580129458799088";
