After giving this some thought I decided to post a short article about the question that has plagued me for so many days. I have not officially reached a decision on which is better for me to use at the moment; however, I have come across some important points that will undoubtedly help some people make a decision right away.
You see, Google Ad Manager seems to have it all. It will track your AdSense campaigns; ensure that the best ads are severed and that you receive the highest possible revenue per ad serving. Now while all of this might be possible with OpenX one could argue the value of ad placements within the network. I have always tried to track AdSense clicks within OpenX with no luck. This could just be my lack of understanding, which once again, just makes Google Ad Manager look a lot better.
Both ad serving platforms offer third party ads which can replace your direct serving ads if y ou choose. As a result your earning potential increases and in most cases your Click Through Ratio will improve as well.
Little things like setting up a cron job for maintance on OpenX might look Google Ad Manager look better to people that do not know how to go about doing this. The support from Google and the Google community will certainly out weigh that of OpenX (personal opinion).
So what is it about OpenX that might keep people using it more that the newly launched Ad Manager from Google? Ownership. One powerful word that could be the basis of my own decision in choosing a platform. Not everyone likes the fact that Google reserves its right to terminate your account at their own discretion. Just imagine losing thousands in revenue because of a mistake or misunderstanding? Imagine how long it would take to setup your ads all over again if Google had to for any reason shut your account down? Yup, I think that I am convinced that ownership in this case is that much more important.
I personally do not even trust my GMail account. I prefer my emails being saved on a hosting account that I pay for and backup regularly.
So what would your decision be? Keep your work in the hands of a well known and respected third party who are sometimes very strict with their terms and conditions? Or rather keep your work safe with OWNERSHIP belonging to yourself and go through a few technicalities to getting it working right? Let me know, leave a comment.

Actually, I have been trying to install Openx on my server for almost a week and am having a ton of problems. When I wrote this post I hadn't tried any new versions since 2.4 and I must say that I am very disappointed. I eventually got the software to work but going through the forums made me realise that maybe I am making the wrong choice. At least with Google Ad Manager all the hard work is taken out for you!
Hi,
Openx installation is very easy process same as installing any script like WordPress or Joomla. Yes, there is big task to upgrade it but now OpenX 2.8.4 has one click upgrade system. Using this, any layman can easily upgrade OpenX.
Also, as OpenX CEO told, Google can use information on Ad Manager to pay you less revenue from AdSense.
One big reason to use OpenX is it’s free open source and you can customize it as you need. There are many Adnetwork in web world who are using OpenX.
You can see below post to know advantage of OpenX over Google AdManager.

There can be many problems encountered during an install or upgrade. Just look through the forums on the open x site. Please don't me wrong. I am all for openx, I just feel that these little things are annoying.
Its all small little things, we have solutions and fixes for everything now. But just see how many adnetworks uses OpenX.
I would suggest OpenX. It is open source and easier to customize. Actually, OpenX installation is not that hard. You just need a nice resource. Hopefully, there is a high quality OpenX book in the market now. It covers all the basics and more including geotargeting, channels etc.

You need a book to configure a software!!
Dude – this is 2010! software should be designed to be easy to use. Not that you should need a degree or book to get it to work. Openx sucks.
